Take in-session payments with card readers

What this helps you do

Take payment from a client in person, right after their appointment.

Before you start

  • Your business's card reader is charged and connected.
  • The Bloomber app is open.

Steps

Step 1: Select the booking

Open the client's booking from My Day or My Book.

Step 2: Start the charge

Tap Collect [amount] by card on the booking.

Step 3: Present the reader

Hand the card reader to your client.

Step 4: Client pays

The client taps, inserts, or swipes their card.

Step 5: Confirm payment

Once confirmed, a receipt sends automatically — you don't need to send one manually.

What success looks like

  • The charge completes and the client's receipt sends automatically.
  • You didn't need any manual follow-up to close out the payment.

Common problems

  • The reader won't connect — Charge it fully before troubleshooting further — a low battery is the most common cause. See Troubleshoot card-reader and payment issues for providers.
  • The charge failed — This is almost always the client's card being declined by their bank, not a reader problem. Ask them to try a different card.
  • No receipt went out — Confirm the charge actually completed rather than just showing as pending — a receipt only sends once payment is confirmed.
